Manuel "Manny" Ramirez

Life as a Super-Star........
Hello my name is Manny Ramirez. I play for the Boston Red Soxs Massachuestts #1 team. I first entered the mayor league in September 2, 1993. I have had my career year since 2004, with 43 home runs and 130 RBI's to date, with an average of .308 and slugging percentage of .613. I have a total of 138 hits in 578 at-bats in 152 games. My hieght is 6'0" and I wieght 200 pounds. I bat with my right hand and throw with it too.

The Real Me.........
Well as we all know everyone knows me by "Manny" but my real name is Manuel Aristides Ramirez. I was born on May 30, 1972 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. My parents are Aristides are Onelcida Ramirez. As I was a child I remeber that i would spend every morning and evening playing baseball with my friends. I also remember that my mother use to get upset because I would not come home to eat at the table and rest with my family. Baseball had taken a hold from me. Even though I would play, I would also watch the Winter League games, to focus on what exceptional players did to win. An example would be Tony Fernandez he was amoung my idols. During these years I also leared about the Dodgers, the Blue Jays , and the Pirates, and of coures the Yankess. I was changing as I started to grow up. I was understanding the love I had for this game. For me baseball was more than a game to have fun playing, it became a serious affair for me.

As I grew Up.......
In 1985, my three sisters and I moved to New York City where my mother and father had been living since 1983. Our family was living in the upper west part of Manhattan, Washington Heights, which was mainly populated by Dominican immigrants. My first few days in New York were very difficult. I had no friends and I didnt Know where there was any baseball fields. Within a few days my father took me to a baseball field in 170th street and Amsterdam Ave., and thats all it took for me to get back into a baseball arena. I had made friends and I played with them almost everyday. I noticed that I couldnt hit the ball on regular basis. My teammates also saw my natural power and invited me to Brooklyns Prospect Park. Every weekend my friends and I went to the fields and played ball. This became my new routine until I entered high school. As I entered high school it was hard for me. I passed all my classes but I felt like something was not right. I had just got in to New York and it was a whole different culture I was doing my best to fit in, and I was also doing my best on learning how to speak english. I had always liked doing things correctly, and it was difficult for me learning correct english, so i lost interest. But then I got deeper into baseball and when I was out there playing I felt good about my self, because I could work hard, and do my best, and also help my team win. I never missed or was late to my baseball practices and I always had faith in my self, I always felt confident, and I always kept me head up high even if we lost a game.

As Time Goes by.......
As time went by and my high school experiance was bitter sweet. But yet I made the best of it, and I sat down with my coaches to talk about how I could be an outstanding baseball player. And after I would turn advice into practice. I was very active at this time. I would wake up very early in the morning evryday before school started to run the fields, and right after dinner I would go to my friends house to lift weights, I was a very hard worker. I was the star of my high school team and I was tetermined to become a better player. And as my friends and coaches would say to me that I would one day make it to the big leagues I got stronger and the fruits of my hard work began to show.

As the good times approched.........
I was able to give the good news to my family in June 1991. The Cleaveland Indians selected me in the first round (I was the thirdteen over all) for the mayor league amateur draft.
I was sighned by scout Joe DeLucca, and then I was sent to Burlington to begin my minor league proffesional carrer. I still continued my good work and mangers voted me the league's MVP and top prospect. A year later i had more good news to come, I was promoted to a Single-A Kinston, and I was named the most exciting player in the Carolina League, even though hand injury limited me to 81 games I was still good. September 2, 1993 was the most exciting and happiest day for me. I had made a mayor league debut, going 0 for 4 in Minnesota. I lasted with Cleavland form 1995 til 1999 which marked my last year.
On December 12, 2000, I signed an eight-year contract with the Boston Red Soxs. This is where I met my good-buddies David Ortiz and Pedro Martinez. I signed the contract for $160 million dollars. I didnt do this for the money, I did it for the team because I said to my self that the Red Soxs had a better chance to win the World Series a team that could really battle the Yankees, and I knew Boston was serious of winning. Thats why I joined the team.
In 2001 season opened up in Boston Fenway faithfully came to see what I had for game and how good I was. I enjoyed playing very much.
In the year of 2004 it marked the 4th season of me being on the Red Soxs team. In 2004 we became the World Series Champions, and the city of Boston hosted the ultimate party.
I think that Im blessed for being MVP, and for being part of this team, and I feel so proud of being on a team that brought championships to all fans.
This was the fabolous life of me Manny Ramirez !!!!!!!!!
